Welcome to “Biking 4 Ben”
The Coast to Coast Fundraiser for Ben Constantine
In 2006, just before his 2nd birthday, Ben had a devastating accident which very nearly cost him his life. Against the odds and following a long stay in Sheffield Children’s Hospital, he has made huge progress, mainly due to the brilliant NHS care he received, the fantastic efforts of his family and his own steely determination to survive.
However, as a legacy of the accident, Ben, now 6 years old, is still wheelchair bound with relatively limited muscle control.
Future progress for him now depends almost entirely on the availability of frequent, specialist physiotherapy, above and beyond that which is available on the NHS. Currently, his physio costs are over £5,000 a year. This cost has been met for the past 4 years by his family, but additional financial support is now really needed to keep Ben’s progress on track and provide him with the best possible quality of life.
This is where we come in, Jeff, Phil, Cormac, Will and “The Chief”– a group of blokes the wrong side of 40 who spend far more time in the armchair than in the saddle!
We are (allegedly) starting to limber up to spend about 3 days cycling the 140 mile Coast to Coast route in May 2011 and would be delighted if:
a) We make it
b) You could sponsor us in support of Ben if we do make it
Any sponsorship will be very gratefully received and will spur us on up hill and down dale in our training.
